How a Cry Overcame a Brain Tumor

For many years, a Bible study and prayer group has regularly met in our state capitol building. Participants are all elected officials who are believers or are seeking to know more about Christ. We meet regularly when the legislature is in session. In recent years, our fellowship group has been especially alert to pray for serious physical ailments of elected officials or their family members. We were made aware of a situation in the life of a private-sector employee with close ties to the legislature. This young man, a husband and father of two children, was diagnosed with a severe brain tumor. He was scheduled for treatment, but the prognosis was grim. Our group felt prompted to call this individual and offer to pray for his needs during one of the morning Bible studies.

Although he was not a professing Christian, he graciously accepted our invitation. When he arrived, we gently surrounded him in a circle, each laying our hands on him. I was asked to lead in prayer. I earnestly prayed, crying out to God, asking him to heal the tumor. The young man departed, without many words, and we did not hear from him for several weeks.

Months later, I telephoned the young man to follow up on his condition. I was amazed by the story that he relayed to me. “At the moment when you prayed, I knew that I was healed,” he said. “I decided to finish with the treatment that was prescribed, including a CAT scan at the end of the process. To the doctor’s amazement, the tumor was gone—the CAT scan was completely clear.”

He finished the conversation by publicly acknowledging his faith in God and his commitment to Jesus Christ. His family has also been profoundly affected by this miracle. He ended the conversation by saying, “Everywhere I go, I tell people about the wonderful miracle that happened to me the day that God healed me.”
