Chaplain Mike Shellman played a key role in getting thousands of books distributed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The books were made available by IBLP and Multnomah Press as a gift to the soldiers. (Picture courtesy of Fort Campbell chaplains.)
When Chaplain Michael Shellman was told by his brigade commander to report to the front of the room, he did not anticipate that the colonel would ask him to pray for God to clear the weather so that they could carry out a very important mission.
Mike appealed to the God who heard Elijah’s cry to withhold the rain for three years, and asked Him to clear the skies. The weather forecast was dismal, but then God did it! He cleared the weather over the base and over the destination. The mission was completed successfully.
On the following evening, Chaplain Shellman was again asked to come forward. His commander informed him that because he had influence with the God of Elijah, the United States Army was going to award him an Army Commendation Medal for outstanding service to the war effort.
The colonel pinned the medal on his uniform and invited him to speak to the commanders.
Word spread, and in the weeks that followed many soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division were convinced that the God that Chaplain Shellman worshiped was the living and powerful God. They confessed Christ as Savior. In one week alone, 40 soldiers became believers.
