If you picture God as One who will love you only if you do what is right and punish you every time you do something wrong, then you have a false perception of God. A false or imbalanced picture of God will produce a spirit of bondage and disillusionment.

1. A Mighty God—He does the impossible

“I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27).

2. A Personal God—He formed me for "impossible" works

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father" (John 14:12).

"[God] hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began" (2 Timothy 1:9).

3. A Loving God—He gives me freedom to choose

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life” (Deuteronomy 30:19).

4. An All-Knowing God—He watches everything I do

“I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” (Jeremiah 17:10).

5. A Gracious God—He gives me power to do what is right

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” (Titus 2:11–12).

6. A Merciful God—He withholds punishment when I do wrong

“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust” (Psalm 103:13–14).

7. A Jealous God—He wants my undistracted love

“I the Lord thy God am a jealous God” (Exodus 20:5).

“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me” (John 14:21).

8. An All-Wise God—He reveals truths through rhemas

“Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?” (Proverbs 22:20–21).
